Saudades Hat

Olá! For this week's throwback we are going to talk about the Saudades Hat. Saudade is a Portuguese word that has no known translation to any other language. It is used to describe a mix of happy and sad feelings of melancholy and nostalgia when one is longing for someone or something they love.

One can feel ‘saudades’ for loved ones that went away, for places they have been to or even for experiences and times that have passed - such as Grandma’s Sunday lunch or when the kids were little and liked to play ball on the front yard. Saudades is the sadness that comes from knowing that that moment or person is gone and is also the happiness to have lived and experienced it, and now have beautiful memories of it. It is also referred to as “the love that remains”.
