Itatiaia Cocoon

Hi there!

Today's featured pattern is the Itatiaia Cocoon. This super cozy cocoon-style sweater is part of the Miss Babs 2020 Fall Collection, along with 11 other beautiful pieces from various designers, including my Nogueira Sweater that I will be talking about on the next post.

Inspired by the migration of birds each fall to escape the cold, the pattern is worked in an attractive combination of ribbing, cables, and stockinette stitch, with details at the back and sleeves. Because of its simple construction, this garment is highly customizable in both width and length.


Yarn Miss Babs Yowza 100% Superwash Merino wool; 560 yd/8 oz (512 m/225 g) skeins; 2 (3, 3, 4, 4, 4) skeins, shown in Migration

Or approximately 1120 (1410, 1650, 1710, 1760, 1820) yards/1030 (1290, 1510, 1570, 1610, 1670) meters of DK weight yarn.


Finished Measurements Width measurements are not based on the chest circumference, but on the width from forearm to forearm: 45¼ (49, 52½, 54¼, 56, 57¾)”/113.5 (122, 131, 135.5, 140,144.5) cm Length is measured from the back of the neck to approximately 10”/25 cm below the full-hip (the widest part of your hips): 33¼ (36½, 40, 40, 40, 40)”/83 (91.5, 100, 100, 100, 100) cm


Needles • US 5 3.75 mm circular needle, 32”/80 cm long or longer, or size to obtain gauge. NOTE: Interchangeable needles with cord connectors are recommended to accommodate all stitches for the collar comfortably.


Gauge Blocked: 18 stitches and 28 rows = 4”/10 cm square in stockinette stitch. Unblocked: 20 stitches and 29 rows = 4”/10 cm square in stockinette stitch.
