Hello! Sorry for disapearing (again!), but sometimes life has its ways of messing up with all our plans and schedules, right? I thought since holiday season is just around the corner I should share with you guys an old(ish) design of a hat. If you, like me, is always behind your gift-knits for this season, I would say hats are the way to go. Everyone one loves them, wears them, and they are usually very forgiving with the sizing, specially when there are lots of ribbing or cables involved.
I started designing this hat just when the coronavirus news started to get scary here in south-america, around the beginning of March. I felt very anxious and found myself thinking constantly about my happy places. And one of the dearest, is for sure Corumbau.
Corumbau is a place in the state of Bahia, Brazil, that I used to visit with my parents when I was growing up. Whenever I have to think of a relaxing, paradise-like place, my mind goes there and to its sandy beaches and crystal-clear sea.
Designing this hat was like taking a vacation there (well, not really), but it was relaxing enough to keep my mind off from what was going in the world then, and plus the satisfaction of having a quick FO is always welcome. It is a ribbed cable hat that is as simple as it gets, making it a great option for last minute gift knitting or (almost) immediate finished-object satisfaction. Worked in the round from brim to crown, its clean design suits any gender, style and age. I hope you like it!
SIZE: Baby (Toddler, Child) (Adult S, M, L) to fit head with 15 (17, 19) (21, 22, 23)” [37.5 (42.5, 47.5) (52.5, 55, 57.5)] cm circumference.
YARDAGE: Approximately 140 (160, 180) (200, 210, 220) yds [130 (150, 160) (180, 190, 200) m] of sport weight yarn. Sample features Lanabel Lana Pura 100% superwash wool colorway Amarillo-Mostaza.
NEEDLES: 3.5 mm (US 4) circular needles with 40 cm (16") cable length and double-pointed needles or preferred method for knitting small circumferences in the round, or size needed to obtain gauge; 3.5 mm (US 4) or smaller spare circular needles for the double brim.
NOTIONS & TOOLS: blocking tools of your preference, cable needle, crochet hook, scissors, scrap yarn, stitch marker for BOR and a tapestry needle
GAUGE: 8 st x 7 rows in 1“ (2.5 cm) in 2 x 2 rib pattern unstretched. Changes in gauge will affect your yardage requirements and your final measurments.
